Our Team

The NovaPort investment team has over 60 years combined investment experience, with extensive knowledge of the smaller companies and microcap markets. Prior to establishing NovaPort Capital, the principals worked together at Challenger Limited managing over $200 million in funds.

At NovaPort:

  • Each team member has responsibility for company research
  • Each team member researches companies across a range of sectors, and
  • Final portfolio decisions are jointly made by the portfolio managers.

Principal and Co-Portfolio Manager

Alex joined Challenger Limited in June 2006 as Senior Analyst in the Smaller Companies Team. Prior to joining Challenger, Alex was at Macquarie Securities Australia from 1992 as Senior Analyst, Emerging Leaders Group.

At Macquarie, Alex's responsibilities included identification, research and formation of smaller companies investment recommendations to institutional and retail clients. The role also included working with the Equity Capital Markets group in assessing initial public offering (IPO) opportunities, valuation of unlisted companies and merger and acquisition scenario analysis as well as responsibility as the primary analyst on IPO's and equity transactions.

Sinclair joined Challenger Limited in September 2010 as Co-Portfolio Manager within the Smaller Companies Team. In the nine years prior to joining Challenger, he managed small and mid-cap portfolios at ING Investment Management and Deutsche Asset Management. 

Sinclair gained sell side experience as a research analyst at HSBC Securities and Hartley Poynton, where he covered a diverse selection of small capitalisation industrial and energy stocks for institutional and retail clients.

Senior Analyst
B.Com, B.Sc | Total investment experience: 14 years

Mitch joined NovaPort Capital in March 2014 as Senior Analyst. Prior to this, Mitch worked at Macquarie Securities Australia for four years in the Resources research team where he was lead analyst covering the gold sector. 

At Macquarie, Mitch's responsibilities included identification, research and formation of investment recommendations to institutional and retail clients in relation to the gold sector. Before Macquarie, Mitch spent four years at Bell Potter Securities as an analyst within the ECM team covering a broad range of sectors including: industrials, resources, oil and gas and financials. Prior to joining Bell Potter Mitch worked at Deloitte within the Assurance and Advisory division for eighteen months. Mitch is a CA (Chartered Accountant).
